History of the Area
Fallsville State Wildlife Area is located in Highland County, Ohio. The area is a mixture of forested hills, grasslands, and streams, which provide habitat for a diverse range of plant and animal species. The history of Fallsville State Wildlife Area dates back to the early 1800s.

The land where Fallsville State Wildlife Area now stands was first settled in the early 1800s by pioneers who were attracted to the fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The area was primarily known for its agricultural activities, with settlers clearing the land for farming and raising livestock.

In the mid-1800s, the village of Fallsville was established nearby, named after the prominent Falls family who were early settlers in the area. The economy of the region revolved around agriculture, and Fallsville grew to become a bustling community with stores, schools, and churches.

As the area became more populated, the need for recreational land and wildlife conservation grew apparent. In the early 20th century, the state of Ohio began acquiring land in Fallsville for conservation purposes. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) was established in 1949, and Fallsville State Wildlife Area was officially designated as a state wildlife area.

Since its establishment, Fallsville State Wildlife Area has been managed by the ODNR Division of Wildlife. The area's primary focus is the preservation, management, and enhancement of wildlife habitat. It provides crucial habitat for game species such as white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and various small game animals.

In addition to supporting wildlife, Fallsville State Wildlife Area also offers recreational opportunities for visitors. The area allows for hunting in designated seasons, fishing in stocked ponds and streams, as well as hiking, bird watching, and nature observation.

The ODNR has worked to improve and maintain the wildlife habitat within Fallsville State Wildlife Area. This includes ongoing efforts to control invasive plant species, restore wetlands, and manage forests to ensure a balanced ecosystem.

Fallsville State Wildlife Area continues to be an important natural resource in Ohio, providing habitat for a wide variety of wildlife species and offering recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.
