Park Visitor: Comments, Memories and Reviews

Hosts were helpful and friendly which was nice. The park has a lot of trash, even in the camp sites which were vacant. Sites were not level & the trees branches need pruned. Restrooms are old and need repair; water must be boiled & showers are not available due to water quality issues. We came in at 5:00 pm but our site still had trash from the prior camper lying around and in the fire pit. The State needs to spend some money modernizing the facilities.

Nice clean facilities Wonderful camp host. The local residents came in took over site and ran us out with loud music after 10pm and pure intimidation. When I filed a report with the Ranger he said that he had already had three previous incidents with the same group. Left out of fear. Do not go there!!!!!!!!
March 25 Great place to camp. by Happy Camper
We have stopped here on our way too and from Colorado many times and have really liked it.We camped up on Soda Butte and also down in the main campground. It has been a great place to stop and we will be back many more times.
December 8 What a Nice Surprise by sandy
My husband and I were taking the long way from Missouri to visit our daughter in Colorado for the recent Thanksgiving holiday. We ran across this park on our map and decided to stop in. Loved the walk through what used to be the old mining town. We tried to imagine what it must have been like when it was bustling with people. Sugarite is a beautiful place; so glad we found it.
July 7 Friendly Hosts
My wife and I went to Sugarite Canyon State Park for the 4th of July weekend. Once we had our camp set up, the Ranger stopped by to give us information about the park. She was very informative and welcoming. The views are breathtaking. There is something to do for everyone; from fishing, hiking, bird watching, even a tour of the old coal mine town that once was there. The trout bite on corn, salmon eggs, and one gentleman shared his home made bait. There are two lakes there. Only electric motors and oar powered allowed. This kept the area quiet and peaceful. Lots of shade available. I cannot wait to go back. It is a short drive to Colorado.
April 28 One our our favorites for camping
Secluded and not well know, our family has made this park and annual or sometimes biannual stop. It is beautiful and the rangers are knowlagable and freindly.
