The 430-acre park is located along the side of Dorset Mountain with Emerald Lake, the head waters of Otter Creek, at its base. The area was historically important for its marble quarrying activities with the park lands once operating as a large farm and summer retreat before becoming a state park in 1960.
Swimming
1. Emerald Lake State Park offers a designated swimming area in the beautiful, clear waters of Emerald Lake.
2. Lifeguards are not always on duty; swim at your own risk.
3. Swimming is allowed from sunrise to sunset only.
4. No diving or jumping off rocks into the lake due to safety concerns and regulations.
5. Canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding also available for water enthusiasts besides swimming options.
6. The park provides changing rooms and restrooms near the beach for swimmers' convenience.
7. Swimming lessons aren't offered by state park staff but private instructors may be hired independently if desired.

Fishing
The park offers abundant fishing opportunities in its 20-acre lake. Anglers can catch largemouth bass, yellow perch and northern pike. There's also a chance to reel in chain pickerel or bullhead catfish. The clear waters are perfect for fly-fishing as well as bait casting.
