JOE WHEELER STATE PARK
Joe Wheeler State Park, located on Wheeler Lake, offers something for everyone; a resort lodge, a restaurant, cabins, camping, fishing, golf, tennis, swimming, convention/banquet facilities, transient slips and a marina.
Whether you're looking for a place to spend the weekend or a place to have the perfect wedding, Joe Wheeler State Park can be your dream destination. From small church groups to large conventions, our experienced staff can make your special occasion organized and stress free.
Located in Northwest Alabama, two miles west of Rogersville, off U.S. Highway 72, the park is approximately 50 miles west of Huntsville and 27 miles east of Florence. Interstate 65 and Athens are 22 miles east of the park.
Joe Wheeler offers an 18-hole championship golf course that was designed by Earl Stone. The course has a setting of rolling hills that tie in with the river. Its length is a definite challenge to golfers, but is a very fun course to play for the novice. Since the course is inside a game sanctuary, wildlife is abundant on the course. Deer can be seen throughout the course and bluebirds are abundant.
Looking for a relaxing setting to hold a convention? Our convention facilities will meet your needs. The giant convention hall can accommodate 600 for a reception, 425 for a banquet, 500 in a theater setting, or 300 in classroom arrangement. The River Room capacity is 300 for a reception, 150 for a banquet, 200 theater-style or 150 classroom-style.

Joe Wheeler Marina is located just upstream of Wheeler Dam within the confines of First Creek. The setting for our marina is truly one of the most serene on the Tennessee River. Several miles of shoreline that adjoin the marina belong to the park and present a nature backdrop. We offer both covered and open slip for lease in the marina. Currently there are 26, 50-foot covered slips and 44, 24-foot covered slips. The marina is a favorite among sail-boaters. There are 88 uncovered sailboat slips. Sailboat slips are new docks and the electrical service to other docks has been recently renovated.
Joe Wheeler's full-service restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. We are open to the public seven days a week. Relax and enjoy your delicious meal as you gaze out across the lake.
Each Sunday an exquisite buffet is prepared for our Sunday Brunch.
During the summer we offer a Seafood Buffet on Saturday night.
Cabins
Our cabins are located on the south side of the Tennessee River near Wheeler Dam. This is a great area that is accessible to both Wheeler and Wilson lakes. There is a boat ramp for Wheeler lake within the cabin area and a boat ramp for Wilson lake within 1/2 mile. Our brick cabins are on a hill that overlooks Wheeler Lake. We also have wood cabins within this area, but they are not lakeside.
We have cabins that will accommodate from 4 persons up to 15. This area is a favorite with fisherman and many return year after year. We also host numerous family reunions and church retreats.
Cabins are equipped for basic housekeeping and cooking. Linens are provided. Cabins have TV's with basic Dish Network programing.
Cottages
These ten newly constructed lakeside cottages are located in the mouth of First Creek, have two or three bedrooms. All have TV?s with satellite reception and DVD players in the great room. Cottages have central heat & air, fireplaces and are equipped with a stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster and coffee maker. Cottages are supplied with linens, tableware and cookware.
The campground is a favorite among campers and features large, level sites among towering pines. There are 116 campsites in the improved campground - 110 sites with full hook-ups, which includes water, electric and sewage hook-ups. Joe Wheeler Resort State Park also has a primitive campground in which guests can use the bathhouse located in the adjacent C loop of the campground. These sites do not have electrical hook-ups, but water hydrants are located in this area. Each loop in the campground has a modern bathhouse with hot showers. Park staff clean bathhouses daily.
