1. Formation: The park's origin can be traced back to the construction of the Mosquito Creek Reservoir in the early 1940s. The reservoir was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control and water supply purposes.

2. Development: After the reservoir was completed, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) entered into an agreement with the Army Corps of Engineers in 1946 to develop a state park around Mosquito Creek Reservoir. This marked the beginning of the park's development.

3. Dedication: On July 17, 1949, Mosquito Lake State Park was officially dedicated. The park's name is derived from the Mosquito Creek, a tributary of the Mahoning River, which was dammed to create the reservoir.

- Start by heading towards State Route 11.
- Take the exit for State Route 305 towards Cortland.
- Continue on State Route 305 until you reach the junction with State Route 46.
- Take a left onto State Route 46 South and continue for about 3 miles.
- Turn right onto US-422 West and drive for approximately 5 miles.
- Take a left onto state Route 88 South and continue for another 5 miles.
- At the roundabout, take the second exit to stay on state Route 88 South.
- After about 1 mile, you will reach the entrance to Mosquito Lake State Park on your right.
