Location
Saint Francois State Park is located near Bonne Terre, De Soto and Farmington

Picnicking
Saint Francois State Park offers picnic tables, grills and three reservable shelters for picnicking with scenic views of nature.
Bicycling
The park offers three biking trails of varying difficulty: Mooner's Hollow, Pike Run and Swimming Deer.

Mooner's Hollow is a moderate 3-mile trail with steep inclines.

Pike Run Trail spans over 10 miles, offering more challenging terrain for experienced cyclists.

Swimming Deer is an easy-going scenic route stretching across two miles - ideal for beginners or leisurely rides.

Bikers should always wear helmets due to the uneven terrains and sudden drops on some routes.

Be cautious as these paths are shared with hikers; maintain respectful speeds when passing others.

Check weather conditions before setting out since rain can make certain areas slippery and dangerous.

Remember that wildlife encounters may occur so it's important to keep your distance if you spot any animals.

Always carry water bottles during summer months because dehydration risk increases in hot temperatures while cycling uphill sections.

Birding
The park offers diverse birding opportunities with over 100 species recorded. It features habitats like forests, glades and streams.

Birdwatchers can spot birds such as the Pileated Woodpecker, Eastern Bluebird or Wild Turkey in various seasons.

There are several trails suitable for bird watching including Mooner's Hollow Trail and Swimming Deer Trail.

Guided tours may be available through local organizations to help identify different species of birds.

Remember binoculars for a better viewing experience; early morning is often best time to observe many types of birds.

July 21 Awesome park!!! by Joe
park review stars; one to five Have camped St. Francois for over 30 years. Grass is always cut, no bugs to speak of; lots of shade; shower house is always clean. Lots of kids to play with our grand kids. Its a must and right out of St. Louis.

park review stars; one to five Just got back from a wonderful weekend at St. Francois. Our campsite backed to the woods and a scenic path down to the Big River...our own access..and gorgeous. The Swimming Deer trail was awesome. Very clean shower houses, minimum mud and dust...mostly grassy! Overall great park!
